Brief Overview

Daniel Steenstra was a Dutch immigrant who settled in New Zealand in 1953 having been offered a contract as a potter at Crown Lynn Potteries in West Auckland. His skill and knowledge was used to promote the pottery at numerous demonstrations at A&P shows and shops. However his value as a professional potter at Crown Lynn diminished over time and he shuffled between Crum (NZ Brick, Tile and Pottery Company Ltd) in the sixties and early 70’s. He was made redundant in 1970 from Crown Lynn and accepted work at Beach Artware and P.D. Lowrie Limited during the 70’s and early ’80’s. Circumstances forced him to look for work and he returned to Crown Lynn (Titian Potteries) until it closed in 1989. followed by a short stint of work at Terra Ceramics until retirement due to ill-health in 1992.
